FAQ

Can I switch from Student to Skilled Worker before finishing?

Usually only after completing your course (or after 24 months of a full-time PhD). See gov.uk Skilled Worker “switch to this visa”.

How long is the Graduate visa?

2 years if you apply on or before 31 Dec 2026; 18 months from 1 Jan 2027; PhD 3 years.

What salary do I need as a new graduate?

Usually 70% of the going rate for your SOC code, at least £33,400, for up to 4 years in total including Graduate visa time.

Can my employer charge me for sponsorship?

No – sponsors cannot recover the CoS fee or Immigration Skills Charge from you. Paying for a CoS or job is a scam.

Am I eligible for HPI with an Indian degree?

Currently no Indian universities appear on the 2023–2025 Global Universities lists.

Do Student visa years count to ILR?

Not towards the 5-year Skilled Worker period. Long-residence rules are different – get advice.
